Maintained by S&P Dow Jones Indices and screened by Ratings Intelligence Partners, covering benchmarks including the S&P 500 Shariah and S&P Global BMI Shariah. S&P uses a rolling 36-month average market capitalisation denominator, providing a longer-term view.

MSCI's Islamic index series applies Shariah screening to flagship benchmarks including MSCI World Islamic and MSCI Emerging Markets Islamic. MSCI uses total assets as the denominator — the most conservative approach — and the methodology is reviewed annually by a committee of Islamic scholars.
